What finding a person by photo really means
A face photo can be used as a visual search query. VisageDB converts the selected face into a numeric representation of visible features, compares it with indexed faces, and ranks the closest results.
The result is a list of possible public appearances. It may help you discover another webpage showing the same person, but it does not attach a verified name to a face or establish who someone is.
Face search versus ordinary reverse image search
An ordinary reverse image search is strongest when the same file, crop, or edited copy appears elsewhere. A reverse face search is designed to compare faces across different photographs, poses, and backgrounds.
The two methods answer different questions. Exact-image search asks where this picture appears. Face search asks which indexed public pages contain a visually similar face.
How to verify what you find
Start with the strongest-looking result, open its source, and compare more than the face. Names, dates, biographies, locations, image history, and additional photos can confirm or contradict your initial theory.
- Use a clear, front-facing photo with the eyes and full face visible.
- Search more than one photo when the first search is inconclusive.
- Treat look-alikes and relatives as possible false matches.
- Do not use a similarity result as the sole basis for an accusation or important decision.
Find person by photo FAQ
Can VisageDB identify a person from a photo?
No. VisageDB finds visually similar faces on indexed public webpages. A result may provide context, but it is not verified identification.
Can face search find a different photo of the same person?
It can find visually similar faces across different indexed photos, but coverage and image quality affect the results. Every possible match should be checked manually.
Does VisageDB search private social media accounts?
No. The index contains images and source details from publicly accessible webpages. Private accounts, restricted records, and pages behind a login are not searched.
